Use SECTOR SEARCH to speed up your results

For definitions of sectors and subsectors see the Sector Glossary

Keywords & Search Fields joined with "AND"

By default, all the search engines on the site will return only references that contain all keywords across all fields.  There is no need to use the word "AND" between keywords or phrases.

Enter keywords or phrases in as many fields as you wish. If you do not want to limit your results by a particular field simply leave the field blank. You can browse an entire subsector by simply selecting the subsector you are interested in and leaving all other fields blank.

No Records Returned!

If your search results in the message "No Records Returned" it generally means one of two things:

  1. No entries contained every aspect of your search. (i.e. all the words entered in every field searched).

Try using less words or searching across fewer fields. If possible start your search with a single word in the description field.

Also use the primary roots of words without suffixes.  For example search on "carrot"  instead of "carrots".  For more suggestions see
Search by word stems section below

  2. The Stats Link Canada database  does not contain any data related to your query.

Try searching on related topics or broad subject areas. You may find information or source that are still relevant your needs.

Searching by word stems

The Stats Link Canada search engine searches by letter combinations as opposed to whole words.  Therefore a search on the word "pet"  will return results that include "pet" and "pets"as well as "petroleum".

To ensure that results are limited to a specific word make sure you put a blank space after the last letter.  For example instead of typing "pet" type "pet ".

Try the Subject Index

In addition to keyword searching you can also try our subject index.  It contains links to current references on our most popular subject searches.

Please note that the subject index is not an exhaustive list of all subjects covered in the Stats Link Canada database. If your topic is not listed simply keyword search as described above.

Search by ID Number

The Stats Link Canada database also allows you to search by ID number.  Some references will identify other related entries by ID number.  Simply type in the ID Number in the Search by ID Number search engine and the record will be returned.

You may also want to record the ID Numbers of references of particular interest to your research so that in the future you can quickly located them and identify updated links and information.

Don't forget to browse

One of the main strengths of the Stats Link Canada database is that is has been organized into a variety subsectors.  Each reference has been added to all relevant subsectors.

When you keyword search you can inadvertently miss information that is relevant to your industry or market simply because the keyword you chose was not included in the description.

Make sure you browse all subsectors relevant to your research. You can browse an entire subsector by simply selecting the subsector you are interested in and leaving all other fields blank.
